Reflections of Seasons Past

This December 21 marks an anniversary of Twenty seven years ago, that forever changed my life—the day I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was a mother of four, my youngest only eight months old. In the blink of an eye, I went from planning his first Christmas to fearing it might be my last.

The memories of that day are still vivid—the shock, the uncertainty, the overwhelming fear of leaving my children without a mother. It felt like the life I had known was suddenly put on hold, replaced with a whirlwind of doctor visits, treatment plans, and prayers for strength.

But looking back now, what stands out most is not just the fear, but the resilience I discovered within myself. It was a resilience fueled by the love I had for my children, my family, and a deepening connection with God that carried me through the darkest moments.

This time of year always brings a mix of emotions. Gratitude for the life I’ve been able to continue living. Reflection on how far I’ve come since that first Christmas, when hope felt like the only gift I could hold onto. And a renewed understanding of how fragile and beautiful life truly is.

For anyone who finds themselves in the midst of a battle they never chose—know that even in the darkest days, light can be found. It may come through the smallest moments: a smile from a loved one, a kind word, or the strength you didn’t know you had until you needed it most.

As I approach this anniversary, I choose to honor the journey, the lessons, and the life that continues to unfold.

Forever Grateful
